Suspected catalytic converter thief arrested in Woodinville

WOODINVILLE, Wash. — A King County deputy came across a catalytic converter being stolen while conducting an area check in a movie theater parking lot in Woodinville.

On Oct. 12, just before 6:30 p.m., a King County deputy checked a movie theater parking lot in Woodinville at the 17600 block of Garden Way Northeast after an increase in catalytic converter thefts in the area, particularly the theater’s parking lot.

The deputy spotted a man standing next to a white truck, and when the man saw the deputy watching him, the man walked away.

After moving closer to the man’s truck, the deputy saw the truck’s front passenger door was open in the rain.

Parked next to the truck was a Toyota Corolla with a jack lifting the vehicle on the passenger side and a flashlight and other tools on the ground.

The deputy contacted a detective who told him there had been three separate catalytic converter charges against the man associated with the same truck.

A check on the owner of the truck revealed the man had a suspended license.

The deputy drove out of view and waited for the man to return to his truck.

An hour later, the man returned and drove off in the truck.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the driving with a suspended license and made an arrest.

Inside the truck, the deputy saw a metal cutting tool and eye protection glasses.

The man was arrested and booked into jail for driving with a suspended license and a previously pending catalytic converter theft charge.
