Snow cuts teens' joy ride in stolen BMW short

RENTON, Wash. — Three teens’ joy ride in a stolen BMW ended Wednesday morning after Seattle police detectives tracked them to Renton, where the car got stuck in the snow.

Police said that on Tuesday, a group of suspects stole two vehicles from a rental car lot near SeaTac. One of the cars was a 2018 BMW 430i.

The next morning, Seattle police were notified that the stolen car was near Magnuson Park in North Seattle.

Responding SPD officers found the stolen BMW, but the driver sped away.  Instead of initiating a chase, officers used information from BMW to track the car as it went to downtown Seattle, the Central District and then headed east on I-90.

Major Crimes Task Force detectives then followed the car to Renton, where the BMW became stuck in the snow.

The three teenagers in the car were taken into custody and booked into the Youth Services Center. Two were booked on outstanding felony warrants and the third suspect was booked for investigation of car theft and eluding.
