SEATTLE — Seattle police are investigating after their department’s non-emergency line was diverted to a fraudulent number for 5 hours Tuesday evening.
Police said between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., calls to the Seattle Police Department’s non-emergency line, 206-625-5011, were redirected to an unidentified third party.
According to police, people who called the number during the time frame likely received a messaged stating that they had reached the United States Marshals Service, and that they had leave their name and a phone number
Police advise anyone who left a message on the non-emergency line and received a call referring to that message or from a person who identifies themselves as a member of law enforcement should hang up and call 911.
This is an active and ongoing criminal investigation.
