SEATTLE — Three members of the Seattle Police Department Honor Guard with be flying to Baton Rouge, Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral of Cpl. Montrell Jackson, one of three officers who were ambushed and killed in the July 17 shooting in the Louisiana city.
"It's is a huge honor to be able to go to Baton Rouge and assist our brothers and sisters in law enforcement and pay respects to those officers who were killed," said Sgt. Lauren Truscott, commander of the Honor Guard.
Truscott says Seattle community members have been overwhelmingly supportive in light of recent tragedies.
"I am very grateful to the citizens of Seattle," Truscott said. "Sometimes tragedies like this really remind us of the positive impact that we have on the community."
Officers are selected to be in the Honor Guard after an application process, and participate in it in addition to their regular duties.
Seattle's Honor Guard will be uniting with the Baton Rouge Police Department Honor Guard to participate in Jackson's funeral as one large contingent.
