Roof collapses at Lynnwood apartment complex

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Part of a roof fell in at an apartment complex in Lynnwood Tuesday afternoon, displacing people living in eight units. No one was injured.

Lynnwood police told KIRO 7 that equipment was sitting on the roof when it gave way.

“It’s kind of just crazy. I’ve never seen that before,” said Isaiah Oakley. Oakley said a roofing company had been working to replace the roof in the last few days.

He said crews ran out into the parking lot when it happened, asking for a manager.

The debris fell into one unit, destroying all the belongings inside. The two people who lived inside were not home at the time. They told KIRO 7 they lost everything, including TVs, guitars, jewelry, and gifts of sentimental value.

“It went right on our bed, like – well, I assume from looking at it - right in our bedroom. We could have taken the day off today, we could have been in there,” said Amy Deller.

Red Cross is assisting people from the eight families as they look for alternate places to stay.

Calls to the roofing company have not yet been returned.
