Renton police save woman from son armed with knife

Renton police save woman from son armed with knife, get him help.

RENTON, Wash. — The Renton Police Department says its officers saved a woman whose son threatened her with a knife.

It happened on November 27.

Officers say the woman called for help while she hid in a bedroom.

When they arrived, one officer tried to speak with the son, while the other helped get the woman out of the home.

The department says the son was despondent and suicidal.

However, thanks to the compassion of one officer – Officer Blake Bowie – the department was able to get the son the help he needed.

Officer Bowie spent two hours talking with the son and built a rapport with him. Eventually, he came outside, without his weapons, and officers detained him.

“I am very proud of the officers involved in this call, especially Officer Bowie, who showed tremendous patience and restraint dealing with an intoxicated, violent person in a behavioral health crisis,” said Sergeant Jeanna Christiansen in a post online. “This epitomizes what the Renton Police Department is about and highlights the very best of public service.”
