Seattle, WA. – Relief from the wildfire smoke came to western Washington on Friday as the rainy weather has cleared most of it. In most cases, the rain usually forces people inside.
But on Friday, KIRO 7 saw plenty of people in rain boots and jackets on the streets of downtown Seattle.
“I could do without the rain every day, but if it means clean air, then I’m happy,” a woman who wanted to only be referred to as Angela, who was walking her dog at the Seattle Center, said.
She also told KIRO 7 the smoke not only kept people inside, but their pets, too.
“It’s been pretty bad lately. And it affects all of us. The dog walks. The people,” Angela said.
“So you find people leaving their windows opened and being consumed by the smoky weather. So, very thankful for this,” Angela said.
Which is why there were plenty of people out with their dogs to get some fresh air. They didn’t mind the wet paws or fur cleanup afterward.
“Rain or shine, he’s happy. And there’s a lot of new smells in the rain too,” Angela said.
The rain has also been welcomed by many fire crews out in western Washington dealing with the wildfires. However, depending on how much rainfall happens in the coming weeks, it could have an impact on moving debris from the acreage that burned.
But with the air quality improving, people are enjoying a normal October day in Seattle.
“Also being born and raised in the Seattle area, this is what we expect in October. Not 85-degree weather!” Angela said.
