Power outage affecting 11,000 customers in Seattle restored

(Seattle City Light)

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A power outage that affected approximately 11,000 customers Wednesday in South Seattle was restored just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Seattle City Light, the utility received initial reports of a car into a power pole, which officials said was not accurate.

Around 1:40 p.m., Seattle City Light restored power to about 3,200 customers in the First Hill area and Chinatown-International District; after 3:30 p.m., power was restored to an additional that 5,500 customers.

Seattle City Light said there were 1,400 customers still without power, mostly in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, about 4:30 p.m.

The Sound Transit Link light rail trains were also delayed along Martin Luther King Jr. Way due to traffic signals being out.

The outage even made it difficult for riders to receive alerts and announcements at some light rail stations.

About 4:40 p.m., Sound Transit said that the main operating system had gone down but was eventually restored.
