Police search for animal rescue van stolen from shelter in Pierce County

PUYALLUP, Wash. — Puyallup police say a van used by Sunny Sky’s Animal Rescue & Hospital to save animals was stolen overnight from the nonprofit’s shelter on East Main Avenue.

Investigators are now looking for the van and tell KIRO 7 no suspects have been identified at this time.
"We miss it and we hope it comes back in one piece," said Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue & Hospital volunteer Donna Zierenberg. "It means everything to this rescue."

The rescue said in a Facebook post that the van was last seen parked at the shelter around 10 p.m. Wednesday night and was discovered missing around 7 a.m. Thursday.

“We are so incredibly saddened that someone would steal the van that enables us to save so many precious animals in need,” said the rescue in the Facebook post.

Sunny Sky’s Animal Rescue said the van is the only van the group had to transport animals. It was stolen days before the rescue planned to save animals from a California shelter that kills.

"They sent out a posting saying that on December 31st there could be up to 20 to 30 animals that will be euthanized and we wanted to help them with that,” said Zierenberg. “Without that van, it'll make it pretty difficult.”
