Police and firefighters check out ‘unknown substance’ in downtown Seattle

SEATTLE — Seattle police and firefighters headed downtown on Wednesday morning to check out an unknown substance outside of the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building.

A Seattle Fire Department hazardous materials team first responded to the area at around 7:20 a.m.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the sidewalk was closed, and people were asked to please avoid the area.

By 8:20 a.m., SFD confirmed that the unknown substance was not hazardous.
