SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Snohomish County officials released the results of their point-in-time count of people experiencing homeless in 2022 on Monday.

The 2022 count identified 1,184 people in 953 households residing in shelters, transitional housing, or living without shelter in the county on the night of Feb. 21.

That total count is the highest it has been in the county since 2012, according to Snohomish County Human Services.

In comparison to the last count, conducted in 2020, the count shows a slight increase of 52 people from the 2020 count, which identified 1,132 homeless persons in Snohomish County.

“There are far too many members of our community who have no home and are traumatized daily by their lack of shelter,” said Director of Snohomish County Human Services Mary Jane Brell Vujovic. “This count allows us to quantify this community challenge and give us a better perspective on what is taking place across the county. We are committed to doing all we can to relieve suffering and help our neighbors transition to a more stable and sustainable life.”

Within the overall count, the number of people living unsheltered decreased by 13.2%, from 673 persons in 2020 to 584 persons in 2022.

The number of people residing in shelters has increased by about 30%, as the county has increased its shelter capacity since 2020, including cold weather shelters which were open the night of the count.

The annual count, which is required by state and federal funders, is used in program planning, identifying trends and to help inform priorities for funding.
