Oregon car chase leads to shootout in Thurston County

An incident in Oregon led law enforcement to Thurston County where a shootout occurred, killing one person and injuring another.

On Monday, after deputies in Thurston County were notified about the Oregon incident, two people in a car were coming northbound into their county on Interstate 5.

The car was located in Napavine, where a stop was initiated, then followed by the Napavine Police Department, Chehalis  Police Department, Centralia Police Department and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Thurston County deputies became involved when the car traveled into Thurston County.

On Old Highway 99, at the I-5 on-ramp near Violent Prairie Road Southeast, shots were exchanged between the two people and law enforcement.

One man was killed and another man was injured, who was detained and transported to a hospital for his injuries.

A third person uninvolved in the chase was struck by gunfire and received injuries not considered life-threatening. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

No officers were struck in the shooting.
