One dead after officer-involved shooting in Puyallup

PUYALLUP, Wash. — A Puyallup police officer shot and killed a man who reportedly walked into traffic Friday night.

Officers were dispatched to a welfare check just before 11 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a man walking in traffic near North Meridian and Valley Avenue.

He reportedly also jumped on a car and tried to get into at least one other car.

Police say once officers arrived at the scene, they contacted the man.

Shortly after, an officer opened fire and police requested medical aid.

Officers began life-saving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear what prompted the officer to fire his weapon.

As this was an officer-involved shooting, the Pierce County Force Investigation Team will now be investigating this incident.
