LONG BEACH PENINSULA, Wash. — The Seattle Aquarium reports that visitors to the Long Beach Peninsula over the holiday weekend could see a small Minke whale washing on shore.
The whale died before washing up and it's believed to have been drifting out to sea for quite a while. The whale displayed a lot of decomposition and once it washed ashore, pressure from gasses that had built up in the animal, along with the whale's weight, served to push its diaphragm outside of its mouth, which you can see in the video below.
A necropsy will be performed Wednesday.
