The Seattle Mariners have added former outfielder Mike Cameron to their player development staff, the organization said in a news release on Friday.
Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto and Director of Player Development Andy McKay announced that Cameron's role would be as a special assignment coach.
He'll start his new role with the Arkansas Travelers, the organization's affiliate in the AA Texas League.
Cameron will work with prospects and a focus on outfield defense and base running. He'll periodically join the Major League club as well.
Cameron was with the Mariners from 2000 to 2003 and spent 17 seasons in the Major Leagues. In his career, he appeared in 1,955 big league games, posting a .249 average with 383 doubles, 59 triples, 278 home runs and 968 RBI. He stole 297 bases with an 83 percent success rate.
In 2001, Cameron was an American League All-Star with the Mariners.
