A Washington state man is charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter.
Ryan Mason Burge is scheduled to appear in court Monday. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
Vancouver police were called to an apartment complex Friday where the girl was unconscious. Police say Burge told them the girl hurt herself during a tantrum.
She was pronounced dead at a Portland hospital.
The girl's relatives tell KOIN-TV she celebrated her birthday two weeks ago. An uncle and aunt say the girl's mother came home from work and found her unconscious.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Burge was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting he burned down his duplex in 2007 to collect rental insurance.
