Man attacked by stranger with bat at Lake Stevens festival

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

The man who attacked a complete stranger with a bat is still on the loose-- and police say could be dangerous.

It happened last weekend at the Lake Stevens Aquafest event.  The victim was hit so hard he broke his arm and needed seven staples in his head.

Rich Nguyen, 25, has some big dreams-- he's an entrepreneur and working towards becoming a life coach.  So clearly being holed up in his bedroom is not part of the plan.

"Like this sucks for me," he told us from inside his Everett home.

Rich is talking about the staples in his head and the cast on his arm.  Worse-- they are the result of Rich just being his motivated, compassionate self.

"People just kind of lose a sense of humanity where they're just all about themselves and it takes the type of people that understand that to reach out," he explained

So while at the Lake Stevens Aquafest with friends last Saturday Rich saw a man who looked upset and he asked what was wrong and how he could help.

"In the middle of our conversation we were walking side by side and I'm just looking forward-- he knocks me, I just fall to the ground and hear people screaming and I feel blood coming out of my head," Rich told us.

The next thing he remembers is waking up in the hospital on a blood-soaked pillow.  So he still can't believe he's sitting here talking to us now.

"I thought I was going to die at one point just because I was trying to hold my eyelids up because they were telling me not to sleep and I was just fading out," said Rich.

Lake Stevens Police say the suspect ran into this apartment complex across the street immediately after the attack-- and they haven't found him.

"I think he was just looking for trouble and I was just there."

And because of his sense of humanity-- that's what scares Rich most.  Next time someone else may just be there.

"It doesn't have to be at an event where this guy could hurt somebody," Rich concluded.

The best description Rich has of the suspect is tall, white male in his early to mid-20s, with chin-length brown hair.

Lake Stevens police said they have lots of witnesses and they're still doing interviews.
