KENT, Wash. — A 23-year-old Renton man was arrested early Thursday in connection with a woman who was reportedly run over by a car and killed in Kent.

Kent police responded at about 3:42 a.m. to the 24700 block of 102nd Place after receiving several 911 calls about gunfire and an altercation in the road where a woman was struck with a car.

Officials said when officers arrived, they questioned a witness who told them he watched a couple arguing outside a car and then saw a man get in the car and run over a woman.

The man then got out of the car and dragged the woman from the road, put her into the car and tried to drive off, authorities said the witness told them. However, the witness tried to confront the suspect, but he refused to stop.

The witness told authorities he then fired two shots into the car’s tires to disable it, but the man drove away with the woman, officials said.

Law enforcement said they searched the area. And at about 4 a.m., they found the suspect who was on foot in the area of 264th and 104th Avenue Southeast. He was taken into custody.

The man identified the woman as his girlfriend, police said. She was found in the car a short distance away. Lifesaving measures were performed, but she died at the scene, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
