A 29-year-old man was arrested after the body of his mother was recovered from Lake Samish in Bellingham on Sunday.
Police said as they were trying to identify the body, Matthew Gregory had filed a missing persons report for his mother, 64-year-old Frances Gregory.
Police said the body found in the lake was of Frances Gregory and her death was ruled as a homicide.
Matthew Gregory was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Bellingham police are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
