Major closures on both I-5, SR 520 Bridge in Seattle this weekend

Revive I-5 highway project

SEATTLE — If you’re going to be traveling through the Seattle area or the Eastside this weekend, you may want to carefully consider which routes to take.

State Route 520 Bridge

The State Route 520 bridge will be closed from Friday, Aug. 26 at 11 p.m. to Monday, Aug. 29 at 5 a.m., as part of the SR 520 Montlake Project, where crews are building a new lid over the highway and adding new eastbound lanes between the lid and the floating bridge.

Both directions of the bridge will be closed over Lake Washington from Interstate 5 to the Eastside.

During the closure, crews will install new girders on the Montlake lid and realign the highway.

The SR 520 trail across Lake Washington will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians during the closure.

Revive I-5 on southbound Interstate 5 in Seattle

Starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, crews will reduce southbound I-5 to one lane south of the stadiums until 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29.

All traffic will be routed through the collector-distributor lanes.

The eastbound and westbound Interstate 90 ramps to southbound I-5 will remain open. The express lanes will remain northbound all weekend because the point where they rejoin the mainline is in the closure area.

Crews will replace expansion joints on the left side of southbound I-5, south of where the collector-distributor lanes rejoin the I-5 mainline.

The work is dependent on dry weather.
