A number of special elections are taking place Tuesday night across western Washington.
That includes King County, where voters are deciding on a plan to spend more than $1 billion on mental health services.
Proposition One would build five crisis care clinics across the county, one of them dedicated to minors. The plan would cost $1.25 billion in total, funded by a property tax levy over nine years. King County officials say in 2024, the levy would cost the owner of an $853,000 home $119 in tax.
As of Wednesday night, 332,726 ballots had been counted. More than half -- 182,267, or 54.87% -- approved the measure. Another 149,936 voters, or 45.13%, rejected it.
Voters in Pierce County face multiple ballot measures, including school district bonds for the Steilacoom and Orting school districts. As of Wednesday afternoon, the Steilacoom bond had 54% of voters in support while the Orting bond had 51% in support, though both need 60% approval to pass.
Brier and Mountlake Terrace residents will vote on whether to join Snohomish County’s South County Fire. Both cities overwhelmingly approved of the annexation as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, with more than 77% of voters saying yes in Brier and more than 92% saying yes in Mountlake Terrace.
In Thurston County, residents have two measures on the ballot, including whether to create a regional fire authority in Tumwater. More than 64% of residents voted no on that measure, compared to 35.7% who voted yes.
