Guns seized from home of student who deputies say brought ammunition to school

SHORELINE, Wash. — Rifles and handguns were seized from the home of a 14-year-old student who deputies say brought ammunition to Shorecrest High School.

The school was placed on lockdown for about three hours after the ammunition was found on Monday.

Classes and after-school activities at the school were canceled Wednesday after district officials said they received multiple reports that there was a potential threat related to the lockdown on Monday.

In their investigation, the King County Sheriff’s Office said they identified five 14-year-old boys who were involved in bringing more than 200 rounds of ammunition to the school.

Officers with the Shoreline Police Department, who contracts with the King County Sheriff’s Office, served an Extreme Risk Protection Order at the home of one of the boys on Thursday night.

According to the state, ERPOs are “designed to temporarily prevent individuals who are at high risk of harming themselves or others from accessing firearms by allowing family, household members, and police to obtain a court order when there is demonstrated evidence that the person poses a significant danger, including danger as a result of threatening or violent behavior.”

Officials said the firearms seized were all stored in safes inside the home and were the same caliber as the ammunition the students had at school on Monday.

According to deputies, the firearms were registered to the parents of the 14-year-old student.

As of Friday, no criminal charges have been filed, and deputies said they have not uncovered any specific threats towards the school or students.
