AUBURN, Wash. — Green River Community College President Eileen Ely is stepping down.
Ely's resignation, accepted unanimously by the college's board of trustees during an executive session Thursday, is effective immediately.
Faculty union members, long at odds with Ely, went on strike last month to protest the proposed elimination of 11 programs and courses at the college.
Instructors have also filed complaints of unfair labor practices.
Ely has been president at the South King County college since 2010.
The board of trustees voted to appoint Shirly Bean, vice president for business administration, and Marshall Sampson, vice president of human resources and legal affairs, as acting presidents.
On social media, people posted the email the college sent out regarding the resignation.
