Two boats caught fire in Lake Tapps on Sunday. Both boats ultimately sank, causing what the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office called in a video a “significant environmental hazard”.
While the cause of the fires is still under investigation, the office said that the Pierce County Metro Dive team had been able to remove the boats from the water to reduce further harm.
In a social media post, the office said the Fire Marshall will be investigating the incident.
