AUBURN, Wash. — Four vehicles were involved in a fatal crash caused by a wrong-way driver on SR 18 in Auburn, the Washington State Patrol said.
Both directions of SR 18 were closed at C Street Southwest for about eight hours. The Washington State Department of Transportation said all lanes have since reopened.
Trooper Rick Johnson said the wrong-way driver was killed in the 2 a.m. crash when he was thrown from his car Wednesday. The driver was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Three semi-trucks and a car were involved in the wreck. Troopers said the wrong-way driver struck two semi-trucks. At least one truck swerved and hit the center barrier, sending debris into the westbound lanes.
Spilled diesel fuel was cleaned up, a barrier was replaced, and the wreckage was cleared from the scene.
All lanes reopened at 10 a.m.
