Douglas County fire (Julie Caille)

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Wash. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that evacuation notices have been issued for areas southeast of Chelan, near Mansfield, threatened by a wildfire.

The fire that is threatening homes and crops began west of State Route 172 near Road 11 Northwest and Road E Northwest Saturday afternoon. It then jumped SR 172 due to a shift in the wind, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported.

As of Sunday night, the wind-driven fire has burned more than 10,000 acres and several structures, including a home.

State fire assistance has been requested to support local firefighters. Snohomish County Fire District #22, Tulalip Bay Fire Department, Everett Fire, Sky Valley Fire and Kittitas County Fire District 1 responded.

Level two evacuation notices were issued for residents south of McNeil Canyon Road, those living from Road B Northwest, including Road 10 Northwest, the town of Mansfield and about 10 homes west of Mansfield.

Level one evacuation notices were issued for residents north of McNeil Canyon Road between Road C Northwest and the top of McNeil Canyon Road up to Road 20 Northwest.

State police closed SR 172 between mileposts 8 and 13 Saturday. It reopened around 9 a.m. Monday morning.

On Tuesday morning, crews said they were approaching full containment of the fire.
