Des Moines police arrest suspect in package theft caught on surveillance video

DES MOINES, Wash. — Surveillance video shows a package thief targeting a North Hill Des Moines porch Monday evening, but officers were able to catch the suspect, Des Moines police said.

Residents called 911 after giving a description of the supsect and the car he or she was in.

Officers said they were able to catch the suspect leaving the back of the home, which is when the person admitted to taking the package.

The suspect was arrested and charged with theft, authorities said.

Officers returned the package to the victims.

Des Moines police said packages are an easy target and people should consider alternative ways to have packages delivered.

Residents called 911, the vehicle and suspect were described from the video and officers responded. Within minutes Police identified the car, and started the process of obtaining a search warrant. A suspect was then seen leaving the back of the home and as officers approached admitted to the theft. The package was recovered and the suspect was arrested and charged with Theft. The package was recovered and returned to the victim. Delivered packages are an easy target, consider alternative package delivery. Most of all, be alert and call 911.
