SHORELINE, Wash. — King County deputies are reminding the public that drugged driving is impaired driving after a man was found slumped behind the wheel of his car after smoking fentanyl, according to police.
Around 6 p.m. on Sept. 16, deputies in Shoreline said they found the driver of a Lincoln SUV slumped behind the wheel near the 15200 block of Aurora Avenue North.
Deputies said the man gave them several false names before he was identified using a portable fingerprint scanner. Once identified, they found he was wanted on a felony warrant.
Police said the driver admitted to smoking fentanyl and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
When he was searched, more than $2,400 in cash and two bags of pills were found, according to deputies.
The Lincoln was impounded.
Shoreline medics took the man to a nearby hospital to be checked out, and deputies obtained a search warrant for his blood.
Police said it will take many weeks to get toxicology reports showing what drugs the man may have taken.
He was booked into the SCORE jail for investigation of DUI.
“This incident is a reminder that drug driving is no different than drunk driving. Washington’s laws are clear. Driving under the influence of ‘intoxicating liquor, marijuana or any drug’ is DUI.
