TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma firefighters were called to a fire at an apartment building Monday morning.
The department first tweeted about the fire in the 3300 block of McKinley Avenue at 10:50 a.m.
The first crew to arrive reported that flames were showing from the second floor.
Crews searched the building for anyone that may have still been inside.
Firefighters quickly knocked the flames down and then cleared out the smoke and put out any hot spots.
One person was transported in stable condition for further medical care.
Thirteen residents were displaced as a result of the fire.
Officials said the cause of the fire appears accidental and was likely started by a discarded cigarette igniting the contents of an exterior recycling container.
