PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — An 8-acre brush fire burning off of Jensen Road in Eatonville is under control but has not been contained, fire officials said Friday evening.
The fire reportedly started around 3:41 p.m. and spread quickly due to windy conditions, firefighters said.
The fire threatened several buildings and barns, but none were damaged.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
No others were injured.
People living and working on farms nearby worked to protect pigs and other farm animals.
Officials said a burn pile got out of hand and spread to several large tree piles and brush, allowing the fire to spread quickly.
Several fire agencies, including the Department of Natural Resources, were called to fight the flames.
A fire crew is expected to stay overnight to monitor the fire and any hot spots, officials said.
