Crash involving semi, multiple vehicles shuts down EB I-90 in Bellevue

I-90 crash Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A crash involving a rolled-over semitruck and multiple vehicles, one partially submerged in water, has shut down eastbound Interstate 90 at Interstate 405 in Bellevue on Friday afternoon.

Six vehicles were involved and passengers were able to get out of the vehicles, according to authorities. There were minor injuries.

Fuel leaked from the semi after the crash, a firefighter with the Bellevue Fire Department said.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson, the driver of one car admitted to racing and while taking the Bellevue Way exit, the driver changed their mind and swerved back into the eastbound lanes and hit a barrier, striking other vehicles.

The driver was not driving under the influence but was taken into custody for reckless driving, authorities said.

Around 7:45 p.m. the crash had been cleared and lanes were reopened.

However, crews remained at the scene to fix a damaged barrier and clean up 70 gallons of diesel fuel that had spilled in the Mercer Island slough.
