LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles church is giving back to its neighborhood in a big way.
Christian Assembly Church announced it will pay off $5.3 million in medical debt for those living in Los Angeles County.
The church is working with a group called R-I-P Medical Debt.
It works to buy the debt from bill collectors for about a penny on the dollar.
So that’s how the church can use it’s $50,000 in donations to help so many.
Sound familiar? It should.
KIRO 7′s Jesse Jones paid off more than five million dollars in medical debt throughout Western Washington -- using the same program last year.
The idea was so popular that viewers started sending us checks so that more families could be helped.
