A child suffered serious injuries after he was attacked by a wolf-dog hybrid, according to Thurston County Sheriff Office.
Two wolf hybrids are at the child’s family home in fenced kennels.
Deputies responded to a 911 call on Monday. They say it appears the child wandered outside while the mother was still in the home.
The child was flown for Harborview Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries to his hands and forearm.
Thurston units obtained a search warrant so that animal control could serve the animals.
Education and advocacy group International Wolf Center writes that "wolf-dog hybrid" (hybrid for short) is a term used to describe an animal that is part wolf and part domestic dog. On its fact page about wolf hybrids, the group writes that the diversity of genetic composition even within one litter of hybrid pups leads to a wide range of appearances and behavior patterns among all hybrids, thus making their behavior inconsistent and more difficult to predict.
