Carjacking ends with BMW, police cruiser stuck on train tracks

SEATTLE — A teenage girl was arrested after carjacking the driver of a BMW in Seattle and leading police on a chase overnight.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to a report of a carjacking in the 5300 block of 16th Avenue South in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.

The caller said he had just pulled into his driveway in his 2007 BMW X5 when he was approached by a male and a female who pointed a handgun at him and demanded the keys to his car and cash. The victim complied, and the suspects fled in his BMW.

As officers were interviewing the victim, other officers found the stolen car at Swift Avenue South and South Albro Place.  Officers tried to stop the car, but the driver refused and tried to elude police, according to investigators.

The BMW struck a fire hydrant and then turned northbound along the BNSF railroad tracks in the 6200 block of Airport Way South. The BMW became stuck on the tracks, and the sole occupant of the stolen car, a 17-year-old female, was taken into custody.

KIRO 7 News video also showed a police cruiser being pulled off the train tracks by a tow truck's winch, after also apparently becoming stuck.

The victim positively identified the girl as one of the suspects.  She was later booked into the Youth Services Center for investigation of robbery and eluding.
