EVERETT, Wash. — A 30-year-old male caregiver was arrested Tuesday for allegedly raping an 81-year-old woman at a memory care facility.
An employee at the facility, located in the 4200 block of Colby Avenue, reported to her supervisor that she believed a female resident had been sexually assaulted on the night of Sept. 7. The facility called the police and the resident was taken to a local hospital for a sexual assault examination.
The resident has dementia, Alzheimer’s and other medical ailments. She speaks limited English and had no memory of anything happening, according to police.
Detectives obtained two DNA swabs from the two males caregivers working the night of the assault. Results from the Washington State Crime Lab report showed strong evidence that one of the caregivers, a 30-year-old Lynnwood man, was responsible.
The man was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on a second-degree rape charge.
