Canadian wildfire smoke creeping its way south to Washington air space

SEATTLE — We’re just getting over the extreme heat and now there’s evidence of wildfire smoke trying to creep in from Canada. C’mon, eh?!

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency says wildfire smoke from British Columbia could make its way to Washington as early as Friday afternoon. However, the smoke is not expected to reach ground level with an air forecast quality of “good” over the weekend. Now you just have to worry about fireworks smoke wafting in from the neighborhood.

Areas in the Cascade mountains might see smoke at higher elevations and air quality could be “moderate” over the weekend.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Seattle timed out the smoke’s arrival for late Friday and into Saturday. They also echoed what Puget Sound Clean Air Agency reported — much of the smoke will remain elevated except for in areas extending south of the border into the Cascades and adjacent foothills.

The NW Clean Air Agency says it is watching forecasts for Island, Skagit, and Whatcom counties to see what may develop Friday. Check the air quality monitors here.
