Boeing improperly conducted late-night engine testing in Seattle

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

More than 100 people complained to King County after Boeing loudly tested the engines on its new 777x late Tuesday night.

"It's like a mini earthquake at my house," said Colin, a Beacon Hill resident. "It seems like Boeing didn't have any regard for their neighbors during this time."

King County officials say they gave the company authorization to conduct engine run-up testing from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday on the plane parked at Boeing Field.

County officials say Boeing actually conducted the tests from 9:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m., in violation of the airport’s noise abatement policy.

County officials say they received complaints from Beacon Hill, Georgetown, South Park and southern West Seattle.

Boeing issued this statement to KIRO 7: “The test extended beyond the allotted time agreed to with the King County Airport and we are sorry for disrupting nearby residents. This was not a normal occurrence and we are making adjustments to prevent it from happening in the future.”
