In January, Sheriff Ed Troyer called 911, claiming Sedrick Altheimer threatened to kill him.

Altheimer, who is Black, claims his constitutional rights were violated and he suffered severe emotional distress.

Altheimer has now filed a claim for damages, which is the first step toward a lawsuit. Pierce County has 60 days to respond.

The state attorney general’s office is still investigating Troyer’s actions.
