AUBURN, Wash. — An Auburn man who prosecutors say fired a modified shotgun shell from a flare gun, killing the victim, was charged on Monday with second-degree murder.

Prosecutors said 29-year-old Philip Urban waited nearly an hour to call 911 after shooting a man in the chest on Dec. 15. Police said Urban told them he had to look for his phone.

By the time police and medics arrived at the home in the 2800 Block of J Court Southeast, the victim, 41-year-old Bryan Lesick, was unresponsive, cold to the touch and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, Urban shot Lesick during a fight after he found him in his kitchen boiling water for Top Ramen.

Urban told officers he was tired of people taking advantage of him, treating his house like a flop house and stealing from him. He said he wanted to take back control of who was in his home.

Urban is scheduled to be in court early next month.
