KING COUNTY, Wash. — Two people were killed in a collision on Interstate 90 near State Route 18 on Saturday afternoon during stormy weather.

Washington State Patrol troopers said a vehicle going eastbound on I-90 hydroplaned due to the wet road.

The driver lost control, crossed the median into the westbound lanes and was struck by a vehicle, authorities said.

Both vehicles came to a stop in the westbound lanes, causing the road to be blocked for at least three hours.

The driver, 42, and the passenger, 34, in the vehicle that hydroplaned, were both wearing a seat belt but were pronounced dead at the scene, law enforcement said.

The 64-year-old driver going westbound was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center.

According to investigators, the vehicle going eastbound was suspected of going too fast for the weather conditions.

The collision remains under investigation.
