Lynnwood man dies after shooting at Kent apartments

KENT, Wash. — A Lynnwood man is dead after an overnight shooting at a Kent apartment complex.

Kent officers were called to the Birch Creek Apartments in the 12900 block of Southeast 275th Street at 12:24 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a shooting.

The apartment complex is close to Springwood Park and a few minutes away from state Route 516.

Officers arrived to find an unresponsive 32-year-old man down in the parking lot with a significant chest wound.

Kent police officers tried to save the man’s life until medics arrived and continued the effort, but the victim died from his injuries.

Officers and crime scene technicians remained at the scene for 5 to 6 hours. Evidence markers were seen in the parking lot near a white car.

Witnesses told KIRO 7 there was an argument between two men outside the townhomes and one of them shot at the other at least four times.

The Birch Creek Apartments is a subsidized housing complex overseen by the King County Housing Authority. The agency provides support services on site, which neighbors say they are grateful for. However, some neighbors, such as Bristol Ernst have concerns about safety.

“It gets hard letting the kids out sometimes because they want to go out and play, but you don’t know what’s going on out there,” said Ernst.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and investigating what led up to the shooting, which they said is not believed to be random.

No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting and so far, no suspect description has been released.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Kent Police Department tip line at 253-856-5808 or call 911 to speak to an officer.
