MUKILTEO, Wash. — Late Wednesday night, fire crews were still monitoring hot spots at two homes that had burned from a massive fire in Mukilteo.
The Mukilteo Fire Department estimated the damage of the fire on 110th Place Southwest at $846,000. The Snohomish County Fire Marshal said the fire, which started around 2:30 p.m., was likely electrical in nature, tied to a battery charger found in the garage of the more badly-damaged home.

Crews continued to spray foam in areas where the structure continued to smoke.
Corey Nelson's father was treated for burns; his mother, for smoke inhalation.
Corey lived there with his parents until a couple years ago. He said his father didn’t know what occurred.
“He went into the garage, and it was on fire,” he said. “My mom tried to rush in, look in the garage, tried to put it out as fast as possible, but a lot of stuff in there-- it got crazy real quick.”
Mukilteo Fire Chief Chris Alexander said it was important for crews to be on scene to handle any flare-ups that could threaten neighbors’ houses.
“We know that in the debris there can be embers and places that will reignite at some point if the wind picks up or something like that,” he said.
Teresa Kornegay lived in the house next door, which also caught fire.
She said nearly everything in her home is water damaged, but she is trying to be positive.
“My family's all alive and my house will be rebuilt, so I’m good,” she said.
Corey Nelson said it is clear their home is a total loss, but they’re still hoping Odie, the 12-year-old miniature Schnauzer considered a part of the family, somehow escaped and survived.
“It's very important,” he said “[He’s] my dad's treasure and if anyone sees him, that's going to make this whole situation a little bit brighter.”
Both the Kornegays and the Nelsons said one bright spot has been their neighbors, some of whom rushed to try to put out the fire initially, and others who have since offered their help and support.
