LYNNWOOD, Wash. — A shoplifting suspect ran across all lanes of Interstate 5 in Lynnwood area Wednesday morning, causing several minor collisions.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said the man was confronted by security at the Walmart on 164th Street Southwest at 9:30 a.m. for allegedly shoplifting.
After a physical confrontation with the security officer, the man ran away, jumped from an onramp onto I-5 and ran across both the northbound and southbound lanes at 164th Street Southwest.
An off-duty police officer in the area at the time took the man into custody. A sheriff's deputy sustained minor injuries during the incident.
No one was hurt in the collisions caused by the fleeing man.
