Bothell mulch fire extinguished after six-day burn

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

BOTHELL, Wash. — A slow-burning debris and mulch fire at a sand and topsoil business in Bothell is completely out.

Firefighters worked six days to reduce and extinguish the fire along 228th Street Southwest at 14th Avenue West.

Firefighters say the pile was complex to combat due to its large size and temperature.

Last Friday, firefighters started to separate the burning materials to cool and extinguish the debris.

Smoke and ash in the area are completely resolved.

Firefighters were on-scene this weekend to ensure the fire was out and for equipment clean-up.

The owner of Fruhling Sand and Topsoil says a pile of wood spontaneously combusted. She heard about it around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Monday morning, a faint glow could still be seen at Fruhling Sand and Topsoil and smoke was billowing throughout the day.

People reported smelling the smoke for miles.

Part of 228th was closed for hours during the morning commute because crews pulled a fire hose, which was connected to a hydrant across the street.
