SEATTLE — Electrical issues have forced the closure of the large chamber at the Ballard Locks.

The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, as it’s officially known, was limited to half lockages for the large chamber Saturday due to possible debris but has now been put out of service for the electrical problems, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said.
“Maintenance is working to resolve both issues, and we hope to have it back up and running in a few days,” said John Hofstra, operations project manager.
However, the small chamber is still operating, and vessels up to 28 feet wide by 123 feet in length can go through.
Maintenance is also expected to be performed on the small chamber, but that is not expected to happen until Jan. 6, 2020.
