Cody Money of Buckley is back behind bars at the King County Correctional Facility in downtown Seattle for allegedly violating the terms of his release from jail.
The 22-year-old is being held on $500,000 bail because security officers at the county’s Community Center for Alternative Programs – or C-CAP – said Money went through the security checkpoint with “several syringes and a spoon” hidden in the crotch of his pants on Nov. 20.
Money had marijuana and prescription painkillers in his blood in October of 2012 when his truck swerved onto the shoulder of Highway 410 in Enumclaw. Justin Relethford , 16, who was walking with his girlfriend, was struck and killed. The results of Money’s blood-draw were thrown out because of a technicality, so the DUI, reckless driving and reckless endangerment charges against him were reduced to misdemeanors. Money struck a deal to attend substance abuse treatment to avoid jail time.
However, Money was booked back into jail on Tuesday after a judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest for allegedly violating C-CAP’s “zero tolerance for drug paraphernalia” policy. On Wednesday, Justin Relethford’s mother told KIRO 7 “I guess it was only a matter of time before he messed up again.”
Teresa Relethford and King County prosecutors have argued that Money spend time in jail, most recently on Nov. 14 when Money was in a Kent courtroom for failing to show-up for multiple C-CAP sessions, as ordered. But King County Superior Court Judge James Cayce released Money to his family and sent him back to rehab.
“When is Judge Cayce going to say ‘enough is enough? Because this is crazy,” Teresa Relethford told KIRO 7.
Cayce didn’t respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. Money’s father, Jeff Money, said the new allegations against his son are a “political witch hunt” but promised his son will be held accountable by his family and the court. Cody Money is expected to face a judge again for the most recent violation sometime next week.
