Fleeing prowler trapped after Lake Stevens crash

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — A police pursuit and crash in Snohomish County trapped a suspected car prowler under downed power lines for more than an hour.

The crash happened at the corner of Highway 9 and Soper Hill Road in Lake Stevens, but the pursuit started in Marysville.

Snohomish PUD crews were still working on the broken power pole Thursday morning.

The driver crashed just beyond it.  He was ejected and his car hit the pole, which dropped wires down onto the car.

Rescuers had to make sure the power was off before they could get the man out.

Police said with several calls reporting a couple of men prowling parked cars in a southeast Marysville neighborhood were received at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

When police arrived, one of the prowlers jumped in a white jeep, fled and later crashed.

The man is now being investigated theft and felony eluding.

Police said the man has a criminal record.

"He does have some history, a lot of traffic history, and he does have some drug history.  From what I was able to view, he has no past violent crimes,” said Marysville police Commander Robb Lamoureaux.

Police say the 25-year-old man was conscious during the time he was trapped.

He was transported to Providence Everett Colby Campus with injuries that are serious, but do not appear to be life-threatening.
