Man fatally shot trying to stop robbery

WHITE CENTER, Wash. — A 51-year-old man was killed trying to stop a robbery early Tuesday  in White Center, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.

He was shot in the chest about 1:15 a.m. in the 10600 block of 14th Avenue Southwest near the Coronado Springs Apartments.

He then stumbled into the parking area and collapsed. Medics found and treated him but he died from his injuries.

Police said he was trying to help a man who was being robbed.  Detectives are still trying to determine what his relationship is to the victim who died. They say the men knew each other.

"Detectives are on scene interviewing witnesses and interviewing family members trying to determine what exactly happened, but as far as we know, this was some sort of interurupted robbery," said Stan Seo with the Sheriff's Office.

Police tried to track the suspect with a K-9 but he was not found.  He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and shorts and a red ski mask.

Anyone with information is asked to call the King County Sheriff's Office.
