The major acquisition was brought about by ‘the Federal Trade Commission's review of the Albertson's LLC and Safeway merger,’ according to the company.
Within early 2015, Haggen plans to convert some Albertsons and Safeway stores to include its Haggen banner.
The company says that they want to retain current store management teams, and that the affected Albertsons and Safeway employees would ‘have the opportunity to become employees of Haggen.’
CEO John Clougher also promised to add more jobs in Washington at each of the 26 newly acquired stores, and at the corporate level.
