SEATTLE — A Federal Way man who worked at a Seattle bank admitted to stealing nearly $78,000 from its vault and taking $20,000 of it to a casino, according to a police report.
Documents say Dararath Mok, 35, used his alarm code to enter the HomeStreet Bank at 3417 Evanston Ave. N. in Fremont early on Christmas Day, 2014, and used his knowledge of the bank to enter its vault.
Once Mok arrived home with the money, he placed it in a box in his bedroom and went to the Muckleshoot Casino two days later, police documents said.
After detectives viewed surveillance footage and conducted an investigation, Mok was arrested on Dec. 29.
A police report said Mok told detectives he that had some family medical issues and was concerned about not being able to pay for the expenses.
At first, Mok told officers he thought he had gambled $4,000 to $5,000 of the money, but during a second interview, he said he had $20,000 with him when he went to the casino, the police report said.
Police said they recovered $44,494 from the box in Mok’s bedroom. Bank officials said $77,994 had been stolen from the vault.
Mok was charged with first-degree theft last week.
